What will I get in the discount 40-minute lesson?

Your teacher will meet you in a private chatroom. He or she will spend 40 minutes helping you to improve your English. You can choose what you want to study. After your lesson, your teacher will send you a report and some suggestions for further study. If you enjoy your lesson and find it helpful, you can register for a course on our Registration Page.

Are your English courses free?

We offer one discounted 40-minute trial lesson for only $10(USD). This is so you can try a live online lesson with one of our teachers before you decide to register for a course. The $10 fee will be applied towards your course registration if you decide to register for a full course. We cannot offer courses or tutorial programs for free. Can you send me any learning software or books?

We don't send any software or books. We offer live instruction over the internet. Our teachers design learning materials and lessons for each student's specific needs. You can visit our Useful Links page to find links to some free helpful learning aids on the internet.

How do your classes work?

Our classes are held live, either in person or over the internet. That means that you and your teacher will either meet in a chatroom, or at a location that works for you (home, office, or one of our classrooms in the UK) during a scheduled time to work together. You will be able to communicate in real-time rather than just through e-mail.

1. First, your class schedule will be set based on when you are available.
2. You will receive instructions for getting to the private chatroom where your class will be.
3. Your teacher will design a course syllabus and lessons based on your needs and interests. If you prefer, you can choose from a list of possible courses.
4. You will meet your teacher in the chatroom.
5. Your teacher will help you to learn English by guiding discussions, offering help, monitoring your use of language and giving focused assignments. You will have all the advantages of traditional classes plus more personal attention from your teacher and the convenience of learning where and when you choose.
6. Your teacher will send you a progress report after each class. 

Do I need any special equipment or software to take a course?

For the regular chatroom classes, you only need a reliable internet connection. Firewalls (such as many offices use) may make it difficult to use chatrooms.

To use voice chat in class (so that you and your teacher can hear each other) you must choose one of the Tutorial options when you register. This is because there is no reliable service that provides voice chatting for more than 2 people at one time.

Will my teacher and I be able to hear and/or see each other?

To use voice or video in your class, you must register for one of our tutorial programs. For a class using voice, you must have speakers and a microphone on your computer. Headsets are very good and provide the best sound quality. To use video, you will need a web camera and a fast connection speed.

Will there be other students in my class?

In regular classes, we only put students together who are at the same level, have the same interests and are available at the same times. There are never more than 5 students in a class. A tutorial is one-on-one; it will always be just you and your teacher.

What courses are available?

Your teacher can design a course based on your unique needs and interests, or you can choose from some possible course topics on our Courses Offered Page.

Will I get a certificate or diploma at the end of my course?

At the end of your course, you will receive a Centaur Schools Certificate saying that you have successfully completed an English Language course. This is not a formal diploma, degree or certification.

How can I pay?

You can pay using a credit card or a direct bank-to-bank deposit. Credit card payments are secure, processed through Authorize.net®.
